Captain John Merrone was charged by the U.S. Coast Guard with drugging two USMMA students aboard his ship and raping one of the young women while sailing upon the high seas. In October 2022 Merrone voluntarily surrendered his Captain's license to the U.S. Coast Guard and is banned for life from the maritime industry.
