What the NCIS File Says

This file is a limited-assistance case for Air Force OSI in Aviano, Italy. AFOSI was investigating an Air Force member for allegedly distributing a person's nude photographs without consent.

AFOSI asked NCIS to locate and interview a civilian Navy employee believed to be a Facebook friend of the person whose images were allegedly distributed. Investigators believed he might have received information from her or possessed some of the images.

NCIS Norfolk identified the witness as assigned to USNS John Lenthall, and the ship schedule showed he could be interviewed during a Souda Bay, Greece port call. During the interview, he said he had never received nude photographs of the person but had received messages from an unknown male saying she asked for nude photographs of a male child; he no longer had those messages.

The witness provided a sworn statement and Facebook-message screenshots. NCIS forwarded the original interview documentation to AFOSI and closed its assistance case.

Why This Record Matters

  • NCIS did not own the underlying nude-photo investigation; AFOSI retained primary jurisdiction.
  • The MSC vessel schedule mattered because it gave investigators a place and time to interview the witness overseas.
  • The file does not resolve the underlying Air Force allegation.
