Biography

Judge Tommy B. Cantrell serves as a United States Coast Guard Administrative Law Judge in Houston, Texas. The Secretary of Homeland Security appointed him to the Coast Guard ALJ bench in May 2023. He hears Coast Guard suspension and revocation cases and other matters assigned by the Office of Personnel Management. Judge Cantrell is a University of Kentucky graduate, earned his J.D. from Loyola New Orleans College of Law, and received an LL.M. in Admiralty and Maritime Law from Tulane Law School. Before becoming an ALJ, he clerked for the Kentucky Supreme Court, practiced maritime law, served as a Kentucky trial commissioner, and worked for nearly a decade as a Coast Guard attorney advisor.
