When I was a non-rate, I had an MK1 reservist who was on his ADT orders approach me when I was going through a legal battle for my daughter. He asked questions, and me being a person who loves to help people, I offered help as he said he was going through the same thing but was confused. This was his in. From there, it went from sexual comments moving into a sexual assault.
I feared reporting it and for days, anytime he was near me, I called guys from my shop to be near me that I trusted. Finally, one caught on and said, “I don’t know what happened, but something clearly happened and you need to report it.” I went to a Victims Advocate who explained my options. I requested to go unrestricted.
The day of his mast, they informed me he was being charged with lewd remarks… after he admitted to CGIS all he did to me and matched my story of my attack. He received a reduction of rank which didn’t hinder his career that much since he’s now a Chief.
Mind you, this was when the new policy came out of zero tolerance. “You do this, you will be kicked out.” He sat in the training with our shop, did all this to me, and zero tolerance was not a thing. My direct command wanted him kicked out, but legal recommended against it and the higher command chose to drop the charges to a lesser offense and claimed he was probably just lonely.
Turns out he has done this to several females before me and only received page 7s.
The last words I was left with were, “You were lucky it wasn’t worse looking at his records.”
