He raped and sodomized me, left me curled up in the bathtub, came back to pour shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and soap on me & tell me how dirty I was.

21 years ago, as a non-rate in Alaska, a group of us girls (fellow Coasties) found another roommate (male Coastie) and moved into a large house. In due time, things escalated. This male took up a ‘relationship’ with one of the other females, took her virginity, then boasted to his boys about the encounter, showing them the evidence on the bed. None of them said this was wrong!

This roommate would handcuff us girls to the radiator in the house, carry a gun around, and point it at our heads to demand we did chores, more often than not dry firing said gun to make a point. Eventually, I’d had enough and reported this to my Chief. The next day, I was in with CGIS. I had lost all of my friends and was ostracized because I reported what the “cool guy” was doing. CGIS and command swept all of this under the rug… until a year later when he raped a civilian!

In the meantime, I was temporarily placed back in the barracks, and standing watch with the personnel office turned into a serious relationship with one of the BM3’s. In due time, his alcoholism went wild. The relationship turned abusive, started small. Controlling, non-consensual sex, throwing things, then he went for it. The first time he beat me, he choked me unconscious. Again, I told my command, nada! At this point, I felt like I didn’t have anywhere left to go.

He came home one night, sat at the table, and just drank. He threw my dog across the room, beat me around the living room, and finally into the bathroom. He raped and sodomized me, left me curled up in the bathtub, only to come back and pour the shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and soap on my head and tell me how dirty I was.

That night, I can’t remember if I called the cops or the neighbors did, but they showed. There was no support for me. Instead, I was taken to medical for pictures, dropped off at a barracks room, then shipped off to A school 7 days later. Not sure I was ever part of an investigation of either of these fine gentlemen!

Fast forward, as an OS3 at a new remote duty station due to these events, I was sent for an evaluation. The Dr (a CDR) proceeded to tell me I had serious issues with men, had no right to hold a top secret security clearance, and was unfit to be in HIS military. He wrote me up as an alcoholic and tried to process me for a 16-week inpatient treatment program.

I came back from that TDY trip, told the HSC to fuck off and fix it or discharge me. I ended up going to 8 weeks outpatient counseling, made reports against the CDR (which never went anywhere), and have somehow made it here today.

I’m only here so the CG can pay me for the rest of my life and to be the support for our members who have to deal with these predators.
